Hey everyone! I’ve been wanting to do more of these Q&A posts, and I ran across this one today thanks to Elspeth’s Day by Day and The Blended Blog! As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to answer the questions for myself, too. Let me know if you guys like posts like these, and maybe I’ll do more of them!
Real or fake Christmas tree?
REAL! I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure we’ve never had a fake Christmas tree (at least in the living room) since I’ve been alive. After Thanksgiving, we go to the nursery and pick out a tree every year. I did used to have a fake white one that I’d put up in my room and decorate it to match whatever theme I had going (once it was ocean themed, that was a fun tree) but I don’t do that anymore.
Favorite Christmas cookie?
Well, I’m not picky anymore since any cookie I eat has to be gluten free. I just take what I can get. But obviously at my house I can have whatever, so I usually go with sugar and then my little cousins pile them with icing and candy before I eat them.
Home on Christmas Morning or travel?
Home. Family comes to our house on Christmas, and then at night, we all go over to my cousin’s house for the big family dinner and presents.
Clear or colored lights?
Our tree has colored lights, but outside is clear. I prefer clear lights, to be honest though. I’m not super into color, and if I had final say, our tree would be super matchy matchy. Then there would be one somewhere else that would have all the homemade ornaments on it.
Send Christmas cards?
Um. My mom and I had pictures made for some this year but as far as I know, that’s as far as she got. So, no.
Favorite Christmas present received?
This is really hard. One year, I came out and there was a giant zebra suitcase sitting out in front of the tree for me. This seems weird to be writing about as my favorite present, and I’m sure there’s something else that I’ll think of that’s better as soon as a publish this, but that suitcase (I think) is what really made me want to travel so much. When my family went to Mexico in 2013, I took that suitcase and the people at the airport broke it. I’m still mad about it.
Favorite Christmas present given?
Also hard. I love shopping for my friends because they’re so fun to buy for. Last year, I bought my friend Denise’s daughter a pink bear dressed in scrubs because they don’t have Build-A-Bear where they live, and she loves that thing. Seeing her face light up when she’s with the bear is one of my favorite things to see, so I think that may be one of my favorite gifts I’ve given.
Stockings or no stockings?
People don’t have stockings? They’re the best part sometimes! Hello gift cards!!
More like new pajamas from Old Navy, but they’re usually red, so it counts.
Favorite Christmas carol?
I love Michael Bublé and Shania Twain’s version of White Christmas, and I also love Baby, It’s Cold Outside from Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel. Clearly I’ve got a favorite holiday album.
Favorite holiday tradition?
On Christmas Eve, my family has a Christmas Lights scavenger hunt around town and we break off into teams of three or four. We get an hour and a half to check off as many things from the list as possible (we have to take pictures to prove it), and whoever gets the most wins a prize. It’s super fun because my family is super competitive. I’m surprised none of us have been pulled over during this before…
Early shopper or last minute?
Well, considering it’s December 12, and I don’t know what I’m getting anyone, let alone purchased anything, I’m going to go with last minute. *Okay, I’ve bought one so far but that’s it.
Favorite Christmas movie or show?
Eloise at Christmastime. Hands down.
Favorite holiday beverage?
Either Trader Joe’s apple cider or peppermint hot chocolate. It depends on the day. But please don’t come near me with eggnog.
Cookies and milk for Santa?
Yes. My little cousins and I make them on Christmas Eve, along with reindeer food. It’s fun to have little kids (or, one little kid) still in the family to do these things with. It keeps the Christmas magic around longer.
